I made this yesterday. It came out perfectly. The only difference from the original recipe was that I used chocolate chunks instead of chocolate chips because it’s what I had in the house. I wouldn’t recommend it because they migrated to the edges. And I added 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract. My wife doesn’t like bananas or walnuts and she loved it.

My spam filter might have caught your first message, Becca. Sorry you didn’t enjoy the recipe. I can’t make any sense of what might have happened. When you bake chocolate chips in a banana bread in the oven, the don’t melt and make the bread brown. You can see in my photo that mine did not do that in my bread machine either. Even if they did melt, how would all that chocolate flavour disappear? Also, I’m not sure how your bananas were flavourless. We quite enjoyed the recipe, and the above commenter (April) said it worked perfectly in her machine. Sorry it didn’t work for you. 🙁

OH MY GOODNESS! I cut the recipe in half as I only had one loaf pan. I will be buying another! As Hubby cannot have nuts any more, I replaced the walnuts with raisins that I plumped. He also requested icing on top; so, I used the recipe from Clone of a Cinnabon. Absolutely delicious. 5 STARS ALL THE WAY! Thank you MN Nice for sharing your recipe!! Read More

If you have a problem with a banana bread recipe, please make sure that you are following the recipe exactly. You will need to make sure that you are inputting the correct bread machine settings, using the exact ingredient measurements (i.e. don’t eyeball the measurements versus using a measuring cup), using the exact ingredients called for in the recipe (i.e. baking soda/powder versus yeast or all purpose flour versus bread flour), etc. Please don’t “wing” things with recipes unless you are willing to live with your experiments!
Please be aware that you MUST scrape down the sides of the bread pan when the machine beeps for add-ins. At this point in the recipe, you will add the chopped nuts, but you may also find dough that isn’t well mixed stuck to the sides and bottom of the pan. Just use a rubber spatula and clean off the unmixed dough as you would in a mixing bowl. Be sure to use rubber or silicone…you don’t want to scratch the pan of your bread machine!

I’m glad you liked it, Alyssa, and that it turned out well for you. I’m always surprised too, when a recipe that works well for me doesn’t work well for others. I have to think that people perhaps make alterations to the recipe or don’t follow the instructions (even if they *think* they did). Either that or different brands of machines may yield different results. I’m really not sure, but I appreciate your feedback, and I’m so glad you found the recipe easy to follow. 🙂
Add the eggs, butter & bananas into the bread pan and then add the other ingredients. Try to follow order of the ingredients listed above so that liquid ingredients are placed in the bread pan first and the dry ingredients second. Be aware that the bread pan should be removed from the bread machine before you start to add any ingredients. This helps to avoid spilling any material inside the bread machine. The bread machine should always be unplugged when removing the bread pan.

I tried this yesterday and it turned out great! The next time I make I will add vanilla and walnuts it was a little bland..I think I needed another banana (mine were pretty small) and I did like another reviewer and put them in a plastic bag first and squished it up first this worked well..this recipe only took about 5 minutes to throw together and was by far the easiest way to make banana bread! Thanks Dee!

Moreover, in many bread machines, the “sweet bread” setting is used for very sweet breads that use yeast (not baking soda/powder). A tad confusing! Nevertheless, sweet bread recipes are different from quick bread recipes and utilize different mixing & baking times. Therefore, a bread machine quick bread recipe (i.e. banana bread) is unlikely to work on the sweet bread setting. Check your bread machine instructions for the exact setting used for quick bread recipes (that utilize baking soda/powder – not yeast).

Excellent! I could tell from the recipe that there would not be enough filling without the walnuts and since I planned to omit them I too doubled the cinnamon/sugar mixture. When baked and thickly sliced the texture of this bread is smooth and soft the sticky cinnamon-spicy sweetness oozes out and it creates the perfect ratio of bread to filling. The kids slathered their slices in homemade apple butter a friend gave us for Christmas but even plain this stuff is heavenly! Read More

Banana bread is a quick bread recipe, which means you don't add yeast. Instead, baking powder and baking soda are the leavening agents used to cause a faster rise than required for yeasted bread. Using the bread machine makes for an almost completely hands-off process with very little mess: almost everything gets mixed right in the pan you bake it in.

Since the batter for quick bread doesn't require kneading and is best with minimal mixing, you may need to adjust the mixing setting. This is especially true if your bread machine doesn't have a program for quick bread. For example, some machines have a "dough" setting to mix and a separate "bake" setting. Mixing should require just 3 to 5 minutes.
Flour sticking to the sides of your bread machine banana bread? Unfortunately, bread machines have a harder time mixing moister quick bread recipes (versus drier sandwich bread dough). Therefore, after the first mixing cycle has fully stopped (and before the second & final mixing cycle has begun), I like to scrape the sides of the bread pan with a flexible silicon spatula (not a metal spatula). This loosens any flour that may be sticking to the sides of the bread pan (because a bread machine mixing “paddle” doesn’t quite reach the sides of the bread pan). For safety purposes, I do not scrape the sides of the bread pan when the mixing blade is moving. In addition, people should not stick their hands inside bread machines. Moreover, people should always wear oven mitts when dealing with a bread machine because the bread pan & bread machine interior can get quite hot.
Bread machine banana bread generally involves less work & steps than an oven-baked banana bread. A bread machine will mix the ingredients for you and bake the banana bread for you in the same machine. In contrast, an oven-baked banana bread involves more work & steps (i.e. you will need to mix the ingredients, pour into a bread pan and move to an oven).

For what it’s worth, please be aware that no two bread machine models are alike. If your machine is not identical to the authors, your results WILL BE different. Any recipe that does not identify the specific brand/model of the machine used, plus all settings and times (including loaf size) the end result will be questionable. This is probably why the previous replies vary so wildly.

All bread machines are different, so it's very important to follow the manufacturer's instructions for the model you own in order to ensure success. Also, make sure the bread machine is ready to go before you start mixing. Once the wet and dry ingredients are combined in the pan, it needs to be mixed and baked right away. Many have a setting for quick bread, or some people use their machine's rapid bread program or manual settings. At the end of the cycle, you can always use a toothpick to check the doneness of your bread and bake it a little longer if it's not thoroughly baked.

Just to add some info I found interesting. When they call for using Quick Bread setting .. that is NOT Super Rapid cycle which is for breads with shorter rising times. However, you can use the Cake cycle which is used for NON - Yeast Breads. I am about to try a recipes that calls for all the same above ingredients except it has 1/3 melted butter and 1/2 cup milk, 1/2 cup nuts , 1/2 cup chocolate chips., only 2 Bananas. and 1/2 tsp salt. Hope it works.
Hi There: The problem I had with this receipe is that I have a Black & Decker bread machine. There is no stop button and you can not set the cook time you would like. Once you have picked the bread/ pasta or dough that you want to make that's it the machine does the rest. This receipe is probably really good but for people that have a Black & Decker machine I don't recommend it.
I have been throwing all my ripened bananas in the freezer now for well over 2 years. When I need to use banana, I just go to the freezer and pull out what I need. They thaw ridiculously fast and I think the texture of a frozen banana is so much easier to work with than a ripened banana that has not been frozen. I wish I would have known about this ten years ago. I have no idea how many bananas I have tossed in the garbage.

I know I have a winning recipe on my hands when my husband and 3 year old start snacking on it as soon as its cool enough to handle and immediatly ask me to make it again soon. This bread turned out so well, just like a cinnamon roll in loaf form. I don't have a bread machine so I did have to adjust the directions for use in my stand mixer. I combined the white sugar and warm milk in my mixer bowl and added the yeast to proof. Once proofed I mixed in the eggs and softened butter until the butter was broken up into chunks and the eggs were mixed in. I then added the flour/salt that had already been mixed to combine. I let the dough hook do all the kneading and when finished I lightly oiled the bowl and the top of the dough, covered with plastic wrap and let it rise until doubled. From that point on I followed the recipe except for doubling the sugar/cinnamon part of the filling. I made one loaf with walnuts and one without since my husband isn't crazy about them. We can't wait to try this bread toasted tomorrow morning. The only change I'll make next time is to brush the dough with an egg wash before baking so it comes out nice and glossy. Highly recommend! Indescribably delicious! I usually make banana bread by hand, so I was a touch skeptical about using the bread machine, but it came out dense and golden and smelled wonderful while baking. I began with the recipe Dee provided, then I added an extra banana, 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon, a splash of vanilla, and in lieu of nuts, a heaping tbsp. of poppy seeds. I also added 4 oz. of plain applesauce (one of those individual cups). I used a Breadman Rapid Deluxe machine, which does not allow you to stop and then bake. Instead, I used the 1 pound setting and the "fruit/nut bread" option. It takes about 3 hours and 15 minutes to produce the loaf, but it mixes and stops and mixes and stops: the actual baking part is about an hour long. The banana bread had a more cakelike than breadlike texture (due to the addition of the applesauce) and was very dense, but oh so good! I love the ease and convenience of this recipe and I will use it often. A word of caution: use a rubber spatula to scrape the corners during the mixing phase to integrate all of the flour (be careful of the machine's mixing paddle), or some of the dry ingredients may get stuck in the corners of the pan. Enjoy!

I’m SO happy with this recipe. Have tried others that didn’t cook all the way through. But this turned out fluffy and moist! My substitutions worked out great- packed brown sugar and Bob’s Red Mill 1 to 1 Gluten Free baking flour. I was nervous about not using bread flour but it turned out wonderfully on the cake setting for 1:40. Will be making again! Only thing I’ll slightly tweak next time is opening up my bread machine during mixing to scrape some of the flour off the sides to make sure it all incorporates since I had a little bit of flour on the sides of the bread. Not a big deal at all though, still very tasty! Thank you.
Oh my goodness this turned out DIVINE. I had some friends over, one of who is a bit of an instagram celebrity when it comes to baking, and she was very impressed! Absolutely delicious – I think next time I will try less sugar (as I used two black bananas so sweet enough), and try add some vanilla as someone suggested above. My only slight imperfection was that their seemed to be a pooling of choc chips in the corners. Will try do a swoop with a spatula prior to the baking part next time. Thanks

I used this recipe in the oven and not the bread machine and it turned out great. I mixed the bananas, egg, oil together, then added the sugar and baking soda/powder (mix very well to get slightly fluffy). (I usually use more than the suggested # of bananas, by at least 1/2 extra banana) Then added all that to a larger bowl with the flour and some cinnamon. Baked for 40ish minutes at 350-375 (depending on your oven). Took it out when the toothpick came out clean. I also added blueberries to the mix. Very tasty. Light and Fluffy.

This is a delicious and super easy way to bake banana bread. I used my Oster brand bread machine on the quick setting and it baked the bread perfectly. About halfway through the baking time I sprinkled some chocolate chips and nuts on top to make it look pretty. Next time I’m going to try using brown sugar instead. I think that would provide a bit of extra flavor and moisture to the loaf.
