I used this recipe in the oven and not the bread machine and it turned out great. I mixed the bananas, egg, oil together, then added the sugar and baking soda/powder (mix very well to get slightly fluffy). (I usually use more than the suggested # of bananas, by at least 1/2 extra banana) Then added all that to a larger bowl with the flour and some cinnamon. Baked for 40ish minutes at 350-375 (depending on your oven). Took it out when the toothpick came out clean. I also added blueberries to the mix. Very tasty. Light and Fluffy.

Some basic bread machine models only have a limited number of settings. These models may not have a quick bread setting which is designed for recipes that use faster rising baking soda/powder versus slow rising yeast. If your bread machine lacks a quick bread setting then the banana bread might burn (as the other settings generally have longer baking cycles). They are geared towards yeast breads (i.e. sandwich breads) that don’t rise as quickly as baking soda/powder breads (i.e. banana bread).
Yes. Bread machine banana bread is a sweet quick bread. Quick breads are muffin-like “breads” made with baking soda and/or baking powder. Quick breads are not sandwich-type breads that use yeast to rise. Other sweet quick bread recipes that use a bread machine include cornbread and pumpkin bread. Indescribably delicious! I usually make banana bread by hand, so I was a touch skeptical about using the bread machine, but it came out dense and golden and smelled wonderful while baking. I began with the recipe Dee provided, then I added an extra banana, 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon, a splash of vanilla, and in lieu of nuts, a heaping tbsp. of poppy seeds. I also added 4 oz. of plain applesauce (one of those individual cups). I used a Breadman Rapid Deluxe machine, which does not allow you to stop and then bake. Instead, I used the 1 pound setting and the "fruit/nut bread" option. It takes about 3 hours and 15 minutes to produce the loaf, but it mixes and stops and mixes and stops: the actual baking part is about an hour long. The banana bread had a more cakelike than breadlike texture (due to the addition of the applesauce) and was very dense, but oh so good! I love the ease and convenience of this recipe and I will use it often. A word of caution: use a rubber spatula to scrape the corners during the mixing phase to integrate all of the flour (be careful of the machine's mixing paddle), or some of the dry ingredients may get stuck in the corners of the pan. Hi Marsha. Not necessarily – the Oster machines have special bread recipes for their ExpressBake (quick) cycles. Instead of no yeast you use Red Star Quick Rise yeast and actually ramp the amount of yeast way up for those cycles. (Like 2 tablespoons versus a more regular 2 teaspoons.) Never tried making bread that way because it requires buying a different type yeast just for those cycles.
iv tried this recipe twice and so far im loving it. infavt the second time i did it i doubled the amount yo get a bigger loaf. But i have to warn you if your bread mechine does not have a bake only function itz definitely a risk. my quick bread cycle was 2hrs 10min long.i had to add additional 20min bake time to it as the inside was still underbaked. Must must use extremely ripe bananas and iv noticed significant difference in the taste from the 2 loafs i did because of the banana. i live in a south east asia so we have so many types of banana and they all taste different. so getting the right banana does make a difference in the taste. but overall its a very very easy and tasty banana bread.! highly recommend.!
Banana bread is a quick bread recipe, which means you don't add yeast. Instead, baking powder and baking soda are the leavening agents used to cause a faster rise than required for yeasted bread. Using the bread machine makes for an almost completely hands-off process with very little mess: almost everything gets mixed right in the pan you bake it in.
I’m glad you liked it, Alyssa, and that it turned out well for you. I’m always surprised too, when a recipe that works well for me doesn’t work well for others. I have to think that people perhaps make alterations to the recipe or don’t follow the instructions (even if they *think* they did). Either that or different brands of machines may yield different results. I’m really not sure, but I appreciate your feedback, and I’m so glad you found the recipe easy to follow. 🙂

If you have at least 4 pieces of leftover cinnamon-raisin bread, why not make French toast? In a shallow bowl, beat 2 eggs with 1/2 cup milk. Heat a frying pan with a little butter. Dip each slice into the egg mixture, making sure to coat both sides of the bread. Place each slice in the heated pan. Cook for a couple of minutes, or until cooked and lightly toasted, and flip. Serve your French toast warm with slightly heated maple syrup.

Making this right now in my Hamilton Beach model# 29882 machine. Luckily I was watching as it starting mixing because the egg/banana/milk slurry was just spinning in the center while most of the flour was staying put on the edges! I helped it along with a rubber spatula and it mixed just fine, but seems awfully wet. The baking cycle is beginning now… Fingeres crossed!

I cannot even remotely recommend this recipe. I followed it exactly, and the bread was just tasteless. The chocolate chips melted and just made the bread brown without adding any flavor. The banana taste was almost non-existent, if I had not seen myself add the bananas, I would not have guessed any bananas were in it. I took three bites, spit out the third and threw the entire loaf in the trash. There was no flavor at all in this! What a waste of good ingredients. Save yourself the trouble, time and expense and don’t try this.
In order to make bread machine banana bread, you need to use the Quick Bread setting. Don’t be fooled by setting names like Quick, Rapid or Express (as these settings are often used for very rapid baking and are not used for quick breads). Unfortunately, setting names can vary between bread machine manufacturers. Therefore, you must check your bread machine’s instructions/manual for the exact setting used for quick breads (i.e. banana bread) on your bread machine. However, be aware that some basic bread machines have only a very limited number of settings and may not have a quick bread setting.
I tried this yesterday and it turned out great! The next time I make I will add vanilla and walnuts it was a little bland..I think I needed another banana (mine were pretty small) and I did like another reviewer and put them in a plastic bag first and squished it up first this worked well..this recipe only took about 5 minutes to throw together and was by far the easiest way to make banana bread! Thanks Dee!

If you have a problem with a banana bread recipe, please make sure that you are following the recipe exactly. You will need to make sure that you are inputting the correct bread machine settings, using the exact ingredient measurements (i.e. don’t eyeball the measurements versus using a measuring cup), using the exact ingredients called for in the recipe (i.e. baking soda/powder versus yeast or all purpose flour versus bread flour), etc. Please don’t “wing” things with recipes unless you are willing to live with your experiments!

I made this yesterday. It came out perfectly. The only difference from the original recipe was that I used chocolate chunks instead of chocolate chips because it’s what I had in the house. I wouldn’t recommend it because they migrated to the edges. And I added 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract. My wife doesn’t like bananas or walnuts and she loved it.
